Illinois Commerce Commission Approves New Rates for Illinois American Water
Summary
On December 5, 2024, the Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC) issued a final order approving a single increase of $110.6 million in annualized water and wastewater system revenues for Illinois American Water, a wholly-owned subsidiary of American Water Works Company, Inc. The approved rate increase, effective January 1, 2025, is primarily driven by approximately $557 million in capital investments made and to be made by Illinois American Water from January 2024 through December 2025. The increase will support continued investment in critical water and wastewater infrastructure throughout the state. Monthly water service bills for typical residential customers are expected to increase by approximately $16, and wastewater bills by approximately $8.50. The ICC also approved an expansion of the income-based discount tariff for qualifying customers.
