Southwest Airlines Announces Sale-Leaseback Transaction for Boeing 737-800 Aircraft

Southwest Airlines Co. has completed the sale-leaseback of 35 Boeing 737-800 aircraft to Babcock & Brown Aircraft Management (BBAM) for gross proceeds of $871 million, as part of its multi-year fleet monetization strategy. This transaction, expected to yield realized gains of $92 million in Q4 2024, will be recorded within other operating expenses and is not included in the financial guidance update for Q4 2024. Southwest Airlines plans to use the transaction proceeds to support its capital allocation strategy, including funding future fleet modernization and providing shareholder returns. A sale-leaseback for the final aircraft is expected to be completed in January 2025.
