Southwest Airlines Co.
Southwest Airlines Provides Updated Financial Guidance for Q1 2025
Summary
Southwest Airlines has updated its financial guidance for the first quarter of 2025, presented by CEO Bob Jordan at the J.P. Morgan Industrials Conference. The company revised its RASM (operating revenue per available seat mile) guidance to increase by 2% to 4% year-over-year, down from the previous guidance of 5% to 7%. The ASMs (available seat miles) guidance was also revised to decrease by approximately 2% year-over-year, down from the previous guidance of a 2% to 3% decrease. Southwest also expects an increase in CASM-X (operating expenses per available seat mile, excluding fuel and oil expense, special items, and profit sharing) of approximately 6% year-over-year, down from the previous estimate of 7% to 9%. The updated financial outlook reflects factors such as higher-than-expected completion factor, less government travel, and a greater impact from the California wildfires, as well as softness in bookings and demand trends due to a weakening macro environment. Southwest is also accelerating its share repurchase program, which is expected to be completed by July 2025.
