MetLife Announces Strong Q1 2024 Financial Results and New Stock Repurchase Authorization
MetLife, Inc. announced its financial results for the first quarter of 2024, reporting a significant increase in net income to $800 million, or $1.10 per share, up from $14 million, or $0.02 per share, in the first quarter of 2023. Adjusted earnings rose to $1.3 billion, or $1.83 per share, compared to $1.2 billion, or $1.52 per share, in the prior year. The company also announced a new $3 billion authorization to repurchase its common stock. These results reflect strong topline growth and sustained momentum across its market-leading portfolio of businesses. MetLife's holding company cash and liquid assets were $5.2 billion at March 31, 2024, above the target cash buffer of $3.0 - $4.0 billion.
