U.S. Government Announces New Export Control Framework for AI Diffusion Impacting NVIDIA

On January 13, 2025, the U.S. Government announced the Interim Final Rule (IFR) for the “Export Control Framework for Artificial Intelligence Diffusion,” which will impose a worldwide licensing requirement on products with certain ECCNs, including many of NVIDIA’s AI-related hardware. The rule, published in the Federal Register on January 15, 2025, will apply to NVIDIA products such as A100, A800, H100, H200, H800, B100, B200, GB200, L4, L40S, and RTX 6000 Ada. The IFR is subject to a 120-day notice and public comment period, ending May 15, 2025. NVIDIA supports U.S. leadership in innovation and will provide feedback during the comment period.
