LG&E and KU Seek Approval for New Generation Projects in Kentucky
Summary
On February 28, 2025, LG&E and KU filed an application with the KPSC for the approval of several new generation and energy storage projects, including two new natural gas combined cycle units, a battery storage facility, and an environmental facility. The aggregate projected capital expenditures for these projects over the 2025 to 2031 period are approximately $3.725 billion. The new NGCC units are expected to be operational by 2030 and 2031, the BESS by 2028, and the SCR by 2028. The KPSC is expected to rule on the CPCN request by November 2025.
