Filtering and Sorting Opportunities
Educational Resource: This guide explains how to interpret features in Profitelligence. Past performance does not guarantee future results.
Why Filter?
On any given day, you might see 50-200 opportunities on the dashboard. You can't research them all. Filtering helps you focus on:
- Quality over quantity - Show only high-score, high-confidence setups
- Your specialization - Focus on sectors you understand
- Your strategy - Long-only? Show only bullish. Short seller? Only bearish.
- Your risk tolerance - Conservative traders focus on top-tier setups
Goal: Reduce 200 opportunities to 5-10 worth your time.
Core Sorting Features
Sorting reorders the table without removing opportunities.
Sort by Overall Score
Click the "Overall Score" column header
Default behavior: Sorts highest to lowest (descending)
Click again: Reverses to lowest to highest (ascending)
Use cases:
- Descending - Find the strongest patterns first (most common)
- Ascending - See the weakest patterns (rarely useful)
Visual indicator: Arrow (↓ or ↑) next to column name shows active sort direction
Sort by Confidence
Click the "Confidence" column header
Use cases:
- Find most reliable patterns - Sort descending, focus on confidence ≥80
- Compare high scores - If multiple opportunities score 85, sort by confidence to find the most tested
Pro tip: Sort by confidence descending, then mentally filter for score ≥70. This finds "well-tested, strong patterns" - the sweet spot.
Sort by Ticker
Click the "Ticker" column header
Use cases:
- Alphabetical lookup - "Where's AAPL in this list?"
- Quick scanning - Familiar tickers jump out more easily
Less common than score/confidence sorting, but useful if you trade a specific watchlist.
Sort by Sector
Click the "Sector" column header
Use cases:
- Group by industry - See all Technology opportunities together
- Sector rotation analysis - "Are most opportunities in one sector today?"
- Specialization focus - If you only trade financials, group them together
Insight: If 8 of top 10 opportunities are in one sector, that sector is showing unusually strong patterns.
Sort by Company Name
Click the "Company" column header
Use cases:
- Alphabetical sorting by full company name
- Less useful than ticker sorting
Rarely used - ticker is faster to scan.
Mental Filtering Techniques
While the dashboard builds out advanced filter UI, use these mental shortcuts:
The "70/60 Rule"
Strategy: Only consider opportunities where:
- Score ≥ 70, AND
- Confidence ≥ 60
How to apply:
- Sort by Overall Score (descending)
- Scan down until you see scores below 70 (stop there)
- Of those remaining, mentally ignore any with confidence <60
Result: High-quality opportunities only. Typically 10-25 per day.
Best for: Conservative traders, part-time traders, beginners
The "Sector Specialist"
Strategy: Sort by Sector, focus only on your expertise
How to apply:
- Sort by Sector (ascending)
- Scan for your sector (e.g., Technology)
- Ignore all other sectors
Result: Focused list of opportunities you can evaluate with domain knowledge.
Best for: Traders with deep sector expertise (biotech specialists, tech-focused traders, etc.)
The "Direction First"
Strategy: Filter by direction before looking at scores
How to apply:
- Scan the Direction column
- Mentally skip any direction that doesn't match your account:
- Long-only accounts: skip Bearish
- Short sellers: skip Bullish
- Options traders: consider all
Result: Only opportunities you can actually trade.
Best for: Accounts with directional restrictions
The "Confidence First"
Strategy: Start with highest confidence, even if moderate score
How to apply:
- Sort by Confidence (descending)
- Look at top 20 by confidence
- Of those, pick the highest scores
Result: Most reliable patterns, even if not highest scores.
Best for: Risk-averse traders who hate false signals
The "Top 10 Only"
Strategy: Radically limit your focus
How to apply:
- Sort by Overall Score (descending)
- Only look at rows 1-10
- Ignore everything else
Result: The absolute strongest patterns right now.
Best for: Part-time traders with 15 minutes per day to research
Combining Filters
Stack multiple filters to narrow down further:
High-Quality Tech Longs
Goal: Find top tech opportunities for long positions
Filter stack:
- Sort by Sector → Find Technology section
- Mental filter: Direction = Bullish
- Mental filter: Score ≥ 75
- Mental filter: Confidence ≥ 65
Result: ~3-8 high-quality tech long opportunities
Conservative Swing Trades
Goal: Find safest multi-day holds
Filter stack:
- Sort by Confidence (descending)
- Mental filter: Confidence ≥ 80
- Mental filter: Score ≥ 70
- Mental filter: Direction ≠ Neutral (only clear direction)
Result: Most reliable setups with clear direction
Emerging High-Score Plays
Goal: Find strong signals with less historical validation (higher risk/reward)
Filter stack:
- Sort by Overall Score (descending)
- Mental filter: Score ≥ 80
- Mental filter: Confidence 50-70 (not too low, not fully validated)
Result: Strong emerging patterns that might be early signals
Risk: Higher failure rate due to lower validation
Saved Filter Workflows
Until the dashboard adds saved filter UI, document your workflows:
Morning Scan Workflow
When: First thing, before market open
Steps:
- Refresh dashboard to get overnight data
- Sort by Score descending
- Scan top 20 for scores ≥75 + confidence ≥65
- Check Direction - skip any that don't match your strategy
- Star 3-5 candidates for deeper research
- Set alert thresholds if anything looks interesting but not quite ready
Time: 5 minutes
Output: Daily watchlist of 3-5 opportunities
Midday Check-In Workflow
When: Lunch time or mid-afternoon
Steps:
- Refresh dashboard
- Check your starred favorites - have scores changed?
- Sort by Score - any new top-10 entries since morning?
- Quick scan - anything dramatically changed (score +10 or -10)?
Time: 2 minutes
Output: Awareness of intraday pattern changes
End-of-Day Review Workflow
When: After market close
Steps:
- Refresh one last time
- Compare to morning list - what played out? What didn't?
- Update starred favorites - remove dead patterns, add new ones
- Review direction changes - did any opportunities flip bullish→bearish or vice versa?
- Plan tomorrow's watchlist
Time: 10 minutes
Output: Learning from today + prep for tomorrow
Advanced Sorting Strategies
Multi-Level Sort
The dashboard doesn't yet support multi-column sorting, but you can simulate it:
Goal: Sort by Score, then by Confidence within each score range
Manual approach:
- Sort by Score (descending)
- Visually group similar scores (85-89, 80-84, 75-79, etc.)
- Within each group, scan for highest confidence
Example:
Score 87 | Confidence 72 ← Lower priority (within 85-89 group)
Score 86 | Confidence 85 ← Higher priority
Score 85 | Confidence 90 ← Highest priority
---
Score 82 | Confidence 78 ← Start of 80-84 group
Score 81 | Confidence 82
...
Score/Confidence Matrix View
Goal: Quickly categorize all opportunities by quality tier
Mental framework:
- Elite (Score ≥80, Confidence ≥80)
- Excellent (Score ≥75, Confidence ≥70)
- Good (Score ≥70, Confidence ≥65)
- Moderate (Score ≥65, Confidence ≥60)
- Skip (Below thresholds)
How to apply:
- Sort by Score (descending)
- As you scan, mentally categorize each row
- Star all "Elite" and "Excellent" opportunities
- Consider "Good" if your expertise aligns
- Skip "Moderate" and below
Outlier Detection Sort
Goal: Find unusual combinations (high score + low confidence, or vice versa)
High Score + Low Confidence:
- Sort by Score (descending)
- Look at top 20 scores (≥75)
- Scan confidence column for any <60
- These are emerging patterns - high risk, high reward
High Confidence + Moderate Score:
- Sort by Confidence (descending)
- Look at top 20 confidence (≥80)
- Scan score column for 65-75 range
- These are reliable workhorses - lower upside, higher consistency
Filtering by Time of Day
Your filtering strategy should change based on when you're looking:
Pre-Market (Before 9:30 AM ET)
Focus: Overnight changes and new filings
Filter approach:
- Check "Last Updated" timestamps
- Prioritize opportunities updated in last 4 hours (new filings likely)
- Sort by Score to see if top 10 changed overnight
Market Open (9:30-10:00 AM ET)
Focus: Initial reaction to your watchlist
Filter approach:
- Focus on your starred favorites
- Check if direction changed on any starred tickers
- Don't chase new opportunities until 10 AM (let market settle)
Midday (11:00 AM - 2:00 PM ET)
Focus: New patterns emerging from morning action
Filter approach:
- Refresh dashboard
- Sort by Score to see if new opportunities entered top 20
- Check if any scores jumped +10 points (new driver triggered)
Late Afternoon (3:00-4:00 PM ET)
Focus: Final patterns before close
Filter approach:
- Refresh one last time
- Focus on opportunities you might enter tomorrow
- Star anything worth overnight research
After Hours
Focus: Research and planning, not filtering
Filter approach:
- Use full sorting to build tomorrow's watchlist
- Read full details on 5-10 opportunities
- Set alerts for anything borderline
Mobile Filtering
Desktop recommended for full filtering power, but mobile works for quick checks:
Mobile strengths:
- Quick glance at top 3 opportunities (always visible)
- Fast refresh to check scores
- Easy starring/favoriting
Mobile limitations:
- Table columns collapse on small screens
- Harder to compare across many opportunities
- Sorting works but less ergonomic
Mobile best practice: Use it for monitoring starred favorites and checking if top 3 changed. Save deep filtering for desktop.
Future Filtering Features
Coming soon to Profitelligence:

Multi-Column Sort - Sort by Score, then Confidence, then Direction in one action
Visual Filters - Sliders for score/confidence thresholds, checkboxes for sectors/direction
Smart Filters - "Show me opportunities similar to NVDA" or "Only patterns I've successfully traded"
Filter Combinations - Save filter stacks like "Morning Scan" and "End of Day Review"
For now, use the mental filtering techniques described here.
Common Questions
Q: Why can't I save filters yet?
A: Feature is in development. For now, document your favorite filter combinations in a note and apply them manually each session.
Q: What's the fastest filter for finding trade-ready opportunities?
A: Sort by Score (descending), mentally apply 70/60 rule (Score ≥70, Confidence ≥60). Takes 30 seconds.
Q: Should I use the same filters every day?
A: Start with consistent filters to build pattern recognition. After 2-3 weeks, adjust based on what's working.
Q: How many opportunities should I focus on per day?
A: 3-5 for deep research. 10-15 for monitoring. More than 20 is too many - you're not filtering enough.
Q: If I filter too aggressively, will I miss opportunities?
A: Possibly. But it's better to deeply understand 5 opportunities than superficially glance at 50. Quality beats quantity.
Q: Can I filter by specific strategy types (e.g., only show Insider Buying)?
A: Not yet. For now, sort by Score and click into opportunities to see top strategy. Skip any that don't match.
